The Olympia Brewing Company was a brewery in the northwest United States, located in Tumwater, Washington, near Olympia. Founded in 1896 by Leopold Friederich Schmidt, it was bought by G. Heileman Brewing Company in 1983. Through a series of consolidations, it was acquired by Pabst Brewing Company in 1999; the Tumwater brewery was closed in 2003.

First brewed in 1896 by the Schmidt family in Tumwater, Washington, Olympia was one of the fist domestic lagers available to American consumers. The beer quickly gained popularity, and by the 1960s it had become a national brand.

Despite some speculation and uncertainty, I can confirm that Olympia Beer is indeed still being made today. However, there has been a shift in its production location. Previously brewed in Tumwater, Washington, Olympia Beer is now produced in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan by Great Western Brewing.

Pabst Brewing Co. made the announcement in an Instagram post Monday. The owner of the iconic local brand said the decicion came afer a decline in the beer's sales.

While the Olympia Brewery ceased operations in Washington, the legacy of Olympia Beer did not fade into obscurity. Pabst Brewing Company made the strategic decision to continue producing the beloved brew, albeit in different locations across the United States.

The Capital Brewing Company became the Olympia Brewing Co. in 1902, and at that time chose the slogan "It's the Water" for their flagship brand "Olympia Beer," in part to explain why the Tumwater lagers were so good.
