Air quality has taken a serious hit across the United States as a two-fold blow of wildfires in the West and in Canada have sent smoke pouring across large sections of the country — a problem that’s set to linger for days.

Air quality alerts remain in effect from Minnesota to the Northeast due to smoke from hundreds of wildfires in Canada. In the West, wildfires in California continue to rage.

One person is dead and 13 have been injured as the largest wildfire France has seen in decades continues to burn across the nation's southern Aude region.

France's largest wildfire for 75 years, which has burned through an area larger than Paris, has slowed overnight but is not yet under control, officials have said. More than 2,000 firefighters and 500 firefighting vehicles continue to be deployed to the Aude region, alongside gendarmerie and army personnel, officials said on Thursday.

Villerouge La Cremade, France — France’s largest wildfire in decades continued to burn and spread Thursday, though at a slower pace, after having already ravaged more than 160 square kilometers (62 square miles) in the south of the country and claiming one life, local authorities said.
