FIFA wants 6,000 Canadian World Cup volunteers. Why not just pay them?
For the 13 games the FIFA World Cup will bring to Canada next year, the sport’s organizers are looking to recruit 6,000 volunteers. That’s a solid number, although it pales in comparison to the 25,000 recruits the Vancouver Olympics used for the two-week festival of sport in 2010.

FIFA estimates 6.5 million fans will attend the World Cup, with 3.7 million attending games in the U.S., 1.5 million in Mexico and 1.3 million in Canada. The 2022 final with Lionel Messi leading Argentina past Kylian Mbappé and France, drew a record 1.42 billion viewers, including 26 million in the U.S.
