Scottie Scheffler's chances of an unprecedented Players Championship three-peat never gained enough traction in Sunday's final round.

Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked player in the world who last year became the first player to win back-to-back Players, finished 4-under par for the week, well off the lead.

American golfer J.J Spaun signed off with a spectacular long-range putt to take a one shot lead into what will be an uncustomarily early final round of The Players Championship, as the threat of severe storms led tournament organizers in Florida to push Sunday’s start time forward.
