Hurricane Erin, now a Category 2 storm, is moving closer to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, where conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the day.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking three systems in the Atlantic, according to the 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, advisory.

"Large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet" will trigger flooding up to one foot deep on "vulnerable coastal roads" and send debris onto roadways, the weather service said.

The sun was shining and the weather seemed to be improving in North Carolina’s Outer Banks Friday as Hurricane Erin continued to move farther out sea.
