The Cubs’ acquisition Monday of left-hander Drew Pomeranz from the Mariners was the beginning of what’s expected to be the in-season approach to fortifying the bullpen.

The Chicago Cubs acquired Drew Pomeranz from the Seattle Mariners, putting another relief option in their minor league system. Chicago traded cash to Seattle for the 36-year-old Pomeranz, who hasn’t appeared in a big league game since 2021.

The Chicago Cubs announced Monday that they acquired Pomeranz, the 2010 No. 5 pick, from the Seattle Mariners for cash. Pomeranz, 36, is expected to join the first-place Cubs on Wednesday during their series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pomeranz recorded a 4.66 ERA and 14-6 K-BB ratio over 9.2 innings at Triple-A Tacoma.
