Less than a year ago that his parents died when their plane crashed into a military helicopter on approach to Washington, D.C., and fell into the icy Potomac River.

More than 20 years after that photo was taken, the boy — now grown and still skating, though on much more stylish blades — sat alone in St. Louis this week, staring silently at the photo.
