Hurricane Erin has triggered a state of emergency in North Carolina, where residents and visitors along the Outer Banks are under evacuation orders.

Hurricane Erin, a few hundred miles off the coast of New Jersey, brought strong winds and crashing waves to the Jersey Shore, especially in Cape May County, on Thursday.

Despite not making landfall, Hurricane Erin caused plenty of damage at the Jersey Shore with flooding and erosion.

Erin is double the size of an average storm, according to the National Hurricane Center, which is watching three other possible tropical systems develop in the Atlantic

But the first Atlantic hurricane of the season is drifting away from the continent and will soon be downgraded.

Hurricane Erin continues its northerly track and is set to deliver impacts to the beaches in New Jersey and Delaware.
