Massachusetts' Supreme Judicial Court ruled in favor of Patricia Walsh Greene, who was previously awarded $37 million in her suit against Marlboro parent company Philip Morris.
Greene grew up surrounded by advertising for cigarettes and smoked her first Marlboro in 1971 at age 13, according to the court.
Officers found the cigarettes, including Newport 100s, Marlboro Red, Marlboro Silver and other varieties, in 10 pieces of luggage during an April 17 inspection, according to a May 14 news release.
This increase is similar to the one that occurred in March 2024, when the government raised the purchase tax on cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and roll-your-own tobacco.
