As a potential US ban on TikTok looms, some users of the video platform are already migrating... to other Chinese-owned lifestyle apps. Two apps owned by Chinese companies, Xiaohungshu (which translates to "little red book" and has been called RedNote) and Lemon8,

“Even if the U.S. bans TikTok specifically, Bytedance — the parent company — is already migrating users to a competing very similar app that it also owns called Lemon8,” Josh Constine of the venture capital firm SignalFire told CNN. “And so it wouldn’t solve the problem unless we basically ban all of ByteDance’s apps.”

Users are migrating to other video apps as a ban on TikTok looms closer. With a TikTok ban looming, some users are scrambling to find a new destination for trending videos.

Lemon8 surged to No. 1 on the Apple app store charts as some users consider it to be a possible TikTok alternative, but the ByteDance-developed platform could be banned by the same law that threatens to ban TikTok.

Xiaohongshu and Lemon8 have jumped to the top of Apple's App Store as TikTok moves closer to being kicked out of the U.S.

Influencers previously partnered with Lemon8 to promote the lesser-known app on TikTok. In recent weeks, many of them have hailed Lemon8 as the place to go if TikTok is banned under federal law. Some have also been recommending it through paid sponsored posts tagged #lemon8partner, showing a recent corporate push to generate more users.

Time is dwindling before TikTok faces a ban in the U.S., and weighing their options, some users aren't just turning to Instagram or YouTube to fill the void.

As the TikTok ban could take effect at the end of the week, another ByteDance-owned app has climbed the rankings in the Apple App Store: Lemon8.
