Britain, France and Germany are calling for an immediate end Israel's war in Gaza after dozens of people were killed over a 24-hour period in the territory.

Trump on Friday dismissed Macron’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state — a gentler response than sharp condemnation from Marco Rubio and other top Republicans, who blasted the move.

The call comes after the three leaders spoke again by phone on Saturday morning, following Friday's conversation. According to the British PM Keir Starmer, the E3 leaders talked about the situation in Gaza,

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the European Union is having “tough discussions” with Israel to help speed humanitarian and financial aid to Palestinians in war-ravaged Gaza.

Dozens of pro-Palestinian activists waved flags and unfurled banners on Wednesday as the Tour de France peloton rode through Dieulefit, a southeastern French town honoured as a "Town of the Just" for sheltering Jewish people during World War Two.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has rebuked France’s decision to move toward recognising the State of Palestine, warning that such symbolic gestures risk misleading the world into believing a solution exists when it does not.

"The humanitarian catastrophe that we are witnessing in Gaza must end now," a joint statement from the three countries reads.

Yesterday, Israel said it will allow airdrops of aid by foreign countries into Gaza to alleviate starvation in the Palestinian territory, where there is widespread devastation. A readout of Starmer’s call with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had no mention of the issue of Palestinian statehood.
