A record 82 million people are set to travel for this year’s Thanksgiving holiday, with air travel expected to be its busiest in 15 years. The TSA is proposing a new fee for travelers without a REAL ID to pass through security checkpoints.
The FAA says it expects this Thanksgiving holiday travel period to be the busiest in 15 years, with Tuesday, Nov. 25, being the peak travel day. More than 52,000 flights are expected nationwide on Tuesday.
The increases in air travel and "other modes" (primarily encompassing train travel), are more modest from 2024, with the number of flyers projected to grow by 12,000 and all others by 2,000. Air travel has had a sizeable jump since 2019, with 70,000 more passengers projected this year.
As solo travel continues to dominate the tourism industry with millennials and Generation Z leading the charge, new research has uncovered alarming safety disparities across United States destinations for those venturing alone.
Data from AAA estimates that around 73 million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving by car this year. “Thanksgiving travel numbers are always impressive because this holiday has become synonymous with heading out of town to spend time with loved ones,” said Stacey Barber, vice president of AAA travel.
