Steve Smith strengthens Ashes legacy, only behind Don Bradman with 37th Test century
Steve Smith moved to second in the list of most centuries in the rivalry, going past Jack Hobbs and is only behind the legendary Don Bradman, who has 19 hundreds.
Steve Smith notched up his 37th century in the fifth and final Ashes Test in Sydney on the third day to put Australia into the ascendancy in the first innings. With this ton, Smith surpassed India's Test skipper Shubman Gill in a major WTC record and also left Kane Williamson behind.
Steve Smith also overhauled England legend Jack Hobbs with his 13th Ashes century, now only second to the all-time record of Don Bradman who piled on 19 hundreds against England in only 63 innings.
Steve Smith now stands behind only Bradman as the greatest batter in Ashes history, after marching to his 37th Test ton with another century against England. On a landmark day for Smith at the SCG, Australia's stand-in captain went past English great Jack Hobbs for the second most Ashes centuries and runs.
