SEPTA says it expects significant service disruptions to continue into Monday following this weekend's winter storm.

Philadelphia’s trolley tunnel has been closed for two months, but SEPTA now is saying that it has completed most necessary repairs and could reopen the connection between Center City and West Philadelphia soon.

After more than 9 inches of snow fell in Philadelphia on Sunday, the region will need some time to get back to normal. SEPTA, New Jersey Transit and Philadelphia International Airport will be open Monday, officials say, but customers may still face cancellations, delays and disruptions as they ramp up to normal operations.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority will halt all Regional Rail and bus operations, and the G1 Metro trolley line, as of 2 p.m. today (Sunday, Jan. 25) because of extreme weather, the agency has announced.

The trolley tunnel has been closed since November. It reopened Monday, but will close again for shorter periods in January and February.

Relief is coming to thousands of aggrieved trolley riders. After two months of closure, the trolley tunnel connecting Center City and West Philadelphia is scheduled to reopen Monday at 5 a.m., SEPTA announced late Friday.

According to multiple Penn students, the closure increased travel times, forced commuters to seek alternative transportation methods, and increased noise as trolleys diverted above ground.
