Mike Norvell enters his sixth year coaching Florida State football, and it is a crucial one. After going 2-10 last year, Norvell knows he can't afford another failed season. He is 33-27 at FSU and 20-20 in the ACC.

South Carolina won its second straight in Death Valley last year, but it's Clemson who owns the all-time series by a commanding margin. The Tigers have won eight of the past 10 meetings against the Gamecocks and haven't lost in Columbia since 2013. South Carolina is ranked No. 13 in the preseason top 25 polls.

Clemson is the heavy favorite as the playoff format is tweaked a bit this season. In 2024, the top four conference champions got first-round byes. This year, the top four teams in the final set of rankings will be the top four seeds.

It joins Florida State to become the second member school to challenge the league's right to charge hundreds of millions of dollars to leave.

Frank Howard joined the Clemson football staff in 1931 then replaced Jess Neely as head coach in 1940 and coached the Tigers until 1969. Howard coached Clemson to eight conference championships. The 1948 team went 11-0 and finished No. 11 in the national polls. The 1950 team won the Orange Bowl.
