A doorbell camera has captured the remarkable moment a meteorite struck the ground outside a home, scattering dust and producing audible impact sounds—a historic first, according to University of Alberta scientist Chris Herd.

A man in Prince Edward Island got doubly lucky last July, recording a meteorite's impact on his home security cameras. The space rock also landed in the exact spot he'd been standing minutes earlier.

Throughout history, only a select few people who were in the right place at the right time could say they’ve heard the sound of a meteor hitting Earth. But that group is about to get a whole lot bigger after the phenomena was caught on camera.

What is believed to be the first-ever footage with sound of a meteorite hitting Earth was captured on the home-security camera of a P.E.I. resident. It's also the first reported and confirmed space rock to fall in the Maritimes.
