Punk and Reigns went toe-to-toe in a heated promo battle on the February 2 episode of WWE Raw, as Reigns chose to challenge Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Punk responded to the public’s praise of Reigns in the promo.

CM Punk finally fulfilled his dream of main-eventing WrestleMania when he competed in last year's main event on night one. The World Heavyweight Champion faced Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match, but failed to prevail after Paul Heyman betrayed him and Reigns to align with Rollins and help him win.
