Police are on the scene of a shooting near the University of Maryland County (UMBC) campus Thursday afternoon.

An officer was shot outside the Baltimore County Police Station on Walker Avenue near UMBC, police said at a news conference at Shock Trauma on Wednesday. Police said around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, an armed subject approached an officer assigned to the Wilkens Precinct in the parking lot and “began to fire upon him.

This kind of violence is shocking, outrageous, and has no place in Baltimore County,” County Executive Kathrine Klausmeier said, as she joined Police Chief Robert McCullough at the hospital. McCullough confirmed that the officer was shot in the back parking lot of the precinct and that the department is deeply grateful to the medical team working to save his life.
