Walgreens announced it was closing a dozen stores in San Francisco because of what it called "increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures" in the latest round of retail store closures in the city.

Retailers to shutter nearly 20 underperforming locations as part of a national downsizing strategy in the industry.

Walgreens announced in 2024 it would be closing about 1,200 stores across the U.S. as it struggles with slumping consumer spending. The company plans to close about 500 stores in fiscal 2025, which ends in August 2025.
