Rory McIlroy entered the 107th PGA Championship looking for his second straight major win, but now even making the cut is going to be difficult.

Vegas made five birdies in his final six holes to post his 7-under 64 at Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina. That gave him a two-shot lead over the rest of the field at the PGA Championship. Vegas is now the first Venezuelan man to lead or co-lead following any major championship round in golf history.

McIlroy comes into Quail Hollow with wins at The Players Championship and Masters and top-20 finishes at every appearance on the PGA Tour in 2025. Scottie Scheffler doesn't have the extensive course history that McIlroy does at Quail Hollow.
