Norfolk State shrugged off a slow start and looked like an unbeaten conference champion as the women’s basketball MEAC Tournament opened Wednesday afternoon at Scope in Norfolk. NSU’s Kierra Wheeler scored 20 points and Diamond Johnson added 18 points as the Spartans pulled away for an 81-55 victory over eighth-seeded South Carolina State.
