Help is on the way for the New York Yankees bullpen. General manager Brian Cashman landed three high-leverage relievers before the trade deadline, picking up David Bednar from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Jake Bird from the Colorado Rockies and Camilo Doval from the San Francisco Giants.

Before Thursday’s trade deadline closed, Colorado traded Bird to the Bronx for second baseman Roc Riggio and left-hander Ben Shields. Riggio was the Yankees’ No. 10 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and Shields was their No. 29 prospect.

Not even an hour after the Yankees acquired Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar, the club traded for Colorado Rockies middle reliever Jake Bird in exchange for second baseman Roc Riggio and left-handed starter Ben Shields, a league source told The Athletic.
